Tanabata, on the 7th of July, is a festival of stars and a celebration of the romantic story of two lovers, Vega (the Weaver Star) and Altair (the Cow-herder Star).

We delve into the use of bamboo in Tanabata, a material chosen for its upward growth towards the heavens—symbolic of our wishes to reach the stars. Whether you have access to actual bamboo or substitute materials, this workshop is designed to ensure everyone can participate and create.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo has been integral to Tanabata since the Edo period, symbolizing strength, resilience, and flexibility. In this workshop, we will explore bamboo's versatile nature in ikebana and demonstrate various creative techniques for incorporating thin and medium-thick bamboo into arrangements.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Personalized Feedback: As part of this hands-on workshop, Ilse will give tailored advice on your arrangement.
  • Creative Techniques: Learn to manipulate bamboo to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your arrangements.
  • Sustaining Freshness: Gain insights to treat bamboo, ensuring the leaves remain vibrant and fresh.
  • Universal Accessibility: Whether you have access to actual bamboo or substitute materials, this session is designed to ensure everyone can participate and create.
