MOVE! | Art, Action, and Transformation
29 AUGUST TO 1 SEPTEMBER 2025
An International Ikebana and Art Exhibition on Movement and Change

Ikebana and the Art of Movement
Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, is more than a visual composition, it is an expression of movement, transformation, and impermanence. Rooted in Zen Buddhism and Shinto philosophy, ikebana reflects the natural rhythms of life. It teaches us that nothing is static, that every branch and flower carries a story of growth, adaptation, and change.
In the spirit of this philosophy, MOVE! invites artists and visitors to explore movement not only in art but also in action, and to reflect on our responsibility in shaping the world.

Art as a Catalyst for Action
This exhibition brings together ikebana students, artists, and participants of summer workshops, blending personal expression with collective impact. Through installations inside and around the church, we explore movement in all its forms, physical, emotional, social, and ecological. Each artwork is a statement, an invitation to shift perspectives and move beyond passivity. What moves you?

A Platform for Quiet Activism
Inspired by Ilse Beunen’s vision of quiet activism, this exhibition embraces change not through loud protest but through a subtle yet powerful presence. Movement begins with awareness, with small shifts in thinking and purposeful action. This philosophy is echoed in the installations whether dynamic arrangements, kinetic sculptures, or interactive works, each piece demonstrates the power of art to inspire transformation.

A Participatory Exhibition
The exhibition is a collaborative project where workshop participants and invited artists create both small arrangements and large-scale installations. These works go beyond traditional ikebana, integrating unconventional materials and principles of movement design. The church and its surroundings become a living gallery, where art not only decorates but also provokes thought, dialogue, and action.

A Community Initiative
The exhibition is organized by Musica Cultura Jette, in collaboration with Dirk Vannetelbosch, a priest and passionate flower lover, and Ilse Beunen, an ikebana artist. It builds on a long tradition of bringing people together through flowers and art in the historic Saint Peter’s Church in Jette, Brussels. Through this collaboration, an inspiring dialogue arises between artistic creativity and community engagement, where art is not only admired but also connects and motivates action.
