About the Teacher: Ilse Beunen | Sogetsu Ikebana Teacher

Ilse's mission is to inspire, educate, and empower people to connect with nature and express themselves through the creative art of ikebana, thereby facilitating a deeper understanding of self and the world around us.

Ilse studied landscape design in Belgium. Her Sogetsu ikebana career began when she moved to Japan in 1989 for 11 years. She became a teacher in 1997 and opened her Antwerp studio in 2000 upon her return to Belgium.   She has her 1st-grade Jonin-Somu teaching certificate and received the 90th Anniversary Commemorative Overseas Akane Teshigahara award. She is known for her weekly newsletters, amazing teaching videos online, and ikebana books.

Schedule

9:30 AM: Arrival/check in time

10:00 AM - 14:15 PM: Workshop (45-minute lunch break in accordance with the rhythm of the workshop.)  

Venue Colorado Springs.  A residence close to Bear Creek Nature Centre on Bear Creek Road and Lower Gold Camp Road.  The precise address will be provided to registrants.

General Information

  • Each participant will receive a professional downloadable photograph of their arrangement
  • Materials are provided
  • 45 minute lunch break in accordance with the rhythm of the workshop.  
  • Participants to bring their own sack lunch. 
  • Please bring scissors, kenzans, containers, and a flower bucket to the workshop.  The organizers will provide kenzans, containers, and flower buckets upon request for attendees flying in. If you need these materials, please email Alexandra Shenpen at ashenpen@gmail.com in advance.
