TRUE COLORS 2015
The inspiration for the True Colors exhibition, "Honne and Tatemae," come for the artists' close connection with Asia and Japan. Honne and Tatemae describe the contrast between a person's emotions and feelings and his public behavior. Tatemae is what the society wants and accepts, rarely it is the same as the Honne, the real thoughts, and emotions.
Tatemae is the mask behind which the real emotions and desires are hidden. Tatemae is essential in the East because the group and society are more important than individual desires. The conflict between Honne and Tatemae is universal, and this exhibition invites to reflect on this tension.
The colorful images from the photographer, Ben Huybrechts, were the inspiration for the floral art arrangements of Ilse Beunen
